With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Gregg Donald Bernier, 47, on Friday, March 20, 2026. He was born in Lewiston, ME on December 6, 1978 the youngest son of Richard and Jane Bernier. Gregg attended local schools, graduating from Lewiston High School in 1997.
Raised with a strong work ethic, Gregg spent his post-high school years advancing through several local businesses, most recently Hannaford in Portland, making lifelong friends along the way.
Gregg will be remembered for his faith and love of family, friends, music, sports, and laughter.
As a child and into adulthood, he was a gentle soul who was always kind, quiet, curious, smart, never complained, and went with the flow. He didn’t want to be the center of attention, he just wanted to be part of the fun.
He was a passionate New England sports fan from an early age. He was an excellent fisherman and an ideal day for him would have included either wading through rapids to the perfect spot, looking under rocks for what’s hatching, trolling in the boat (set of spoons maybe?), or taking a nap on the waters edge. Trips to Sebago Lake, Sabattus Lake, Wild River, Upper Dam and early evenings standing in the “Little Andro” brought him pure joy. He was a talented guitar player who would amaze people with his gift, and had a passion for all music, often sharing what he found inspiring. He had a deep affection for time spent camping with his grandparents, parents, and other family members. He loved family get togethers and had recently acquired a love for cooking. He loved all things Nascar, Lord of the Rings, good meals, and a good documentary to fall asleep too - and he could sleep anywhere, a professional some might say.
More then anything - he loved to laugh, and spent countless hours with family and friends perfecting that craft.
Gregg had a vast network of friends, co-workers, and housemates that he cared for deeply. They meant the world to him and he was always available to them. Support, kindness, patience and loyalty is what he brought to them regardless of the day he was having. He was a special person who cared for others and would help anyone do anything, making everyone around him feel important, and proud to call him their friend.
Gregg loved his family passionately. He had an enormous soft-spot for anything “family”. From his loving parents, brother and sister-in-law, grandparents, aunts, uncles and all the cousins, some of his happiest memories were spent together with them all.
He is survived by his loving parents, Richard and Jane Bernier of Minot; his brother David and wife Jennifer Bernier; grandmother Louise Bernier; great-uncle Reggie Bolduc; extended brothers Ian Gilchrest, and Justin Featherman; and several beloved aunts, uncles, and cousins.
He was pre-deceased by grandparents Roland and Laurette Gauthier; grandfather Lionel Bernier; and several very special aunts and uncles.
Gregg was loved by all who knew him, and will be greatly missed. How lucky we were to have something that makes saying goodbye so hard.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Visitation for Gregg on Thursday, March 26th from 5PM to 7PM at The Fortin & Pinette Group, 217 Turner Street Auburn, ME 04210.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated on Friday, March 27th at 1PM at Holy Family Church, 607 Sabattus Street Lewiston, ME 04240. Committal Prayers will follow at Gracelawn Memorial Park.
