AUBURN- The entire extended family of Jacqueline L. LaBrie is saddened to announce her departure from this earthly plane of existence. “Jackie”, as she is affectionately known, was born Jacqueline Beauchesne, daughter of Laura (Blais) and Alfred Beauchesne, on Jan 31,1936 in Lewiston, Maine. She shared her childhood home on Lincoln Street with her parents, and her sister Yolande (who predeceased her in 2008); she had a younger brother who passed at three months old from SIDS.
While being employed at a local laundry service at the age of 16, she met her future husband Ernest Richard LaBrie. After an extended courtship, they became engaged as she waited for him to return from the Korean War, where he served as a supply sergeant for the Air Force in 1953. They wed on July 3,1954 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Lewiston. They were the parents of an only child, Susan, born on September 10,1955. They were the grandparents of four: Camellia Gagne, who is married to Brian Sousa; Nathan Gagne, who married Nicole Bailey; Astra Gagne, who entered into a domestic partnership with Diogenes Santos; and Perry Gagne. “Jackie” and “Ernie” were also proud great-grandparents of Lilliana, Lylana, and Leviana Gagne-Santos.
Jackie was an avid home decorator and took exceptional care of her residences and was also a devoted member of the local Catholic Community. She once served as a treasurer for the Ladies of St. Anne Sodality, and was involved in her daughter Susan’s Girl Scout Troop. She and her husband were communicants of Prince of Peace Parish and former parishioners of St. Mary’s, SS Peter & Paul’s, Holy Family, and St. Patrick’s Churches.
Not only was she an active member of her community, a devoted wife and a loving mother; she also enjoyed a retail career that spanned over forty-five years. She was employed by such memorable retail establishments as TJ Murphy’s Fur Company, Peck’s, Hit or Miss, and The Carriage House.
During their long marriage, they enjoyed dining out at favorite local spots like the Steer House, Chuck Wagon and Happy Jack’s. They frequently went to church and community bingo games with Yolande and Lucien Asselin. Ernest and Jackie also enjoyed antiquing, flea markets, garage sales, and many day trips to the Maine shoreline.
Her retirement years were spent in peace and tranquility at St. Mary’s Residences, taking care of her husband Ernest during his declining years. She also served as a volunteer receptionist at St. Mary’s Medical Center.
She loved to sing and dance with her husband and always called him by his middle name “Ricky”. In her declining years, she enjoyed looking at family pictures, visiting with her dear friends at the Residences, and attending Brunswick Summer Musical Theatre productions with her long time dear friend and helper Connie Albert.
May her Memory and those of my Dad’s live forever in your hearts and minds and rest assured that she is now with her beloved husband in her heavenly home.
Floral Tributes are welcome and Memorial donations can be sent to to St. Mary’s Residences Activity Fund, 100 Campus Ave Lewiston, ME 04240, care of Therese Rodrigue.
