

Auburn - Robert H. Durgin, age 79 a longtime resident of Auburn, died Friday afternoon at The Hospice House with family by his side. He was born in Turner January 30, 1933, a son of Reginald J. Durgin Sr. and Etta E. (McCarthy) Durgin. He was educated in Turner schools and was a Military Veteran, having served his country in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict until his Honorable Discharge in December of 1953. He worked as a truck driver for over 40 years until his retirement in 1994. He was a proud member of Local 340 Teamsters Union, a lifetime member of the V.F.W., a member of the American Legion and a member of the NESA Destroyer Group. He enjoyed the company of his grand children and especially his great grand children. He also had a special bond with his grand dog, Lily. He was a loving, devoted and hard-working husband, father and grandfather who will be dearly missed. He is survived by his wife of 45 years Joan Durgin of Auburn; his children Cheryl Edwards, Cathy Durgin and companion Dave, Bradley Durgin and wife Connie, Robert Durgin Jr. and companion Jennifer, Brian Durgin and wife Alison, Cindy Treadwell and husband Denny, Tod Day and wife Shelly and Tim Day and companion Pauline; a brother John Durgin and wife Donalyn; two sisters Helen Hewins and Gladys Sawyer; a special sister-in-law Sandra Durgin; many beloved grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews; and special friend Cliff Ledger. He was predeceased by his parents, his father's second wife Irene, his twin brother Richard and three sisters Doris Hersom, Madeline Simard and Maville Dyer. The family wishes to thank Dr. Austin and all staff at The Hospice House for the excellent care, compassion and support shown to Bob and his family during his final days.
