Shirlene, daughter of the late Albert E. Heywood and Lorraine Y. (LaPointe) Heywood was born April 14th, 1953, in Lewiston, Maine. She is preceded in death by both of her parents, her brother Larry Heywood and sister Debra (Heywood) Giles. She is survived by her brothers Mark Heywood and John Heywood and her twin daughters Kelly (Mendenhall) Stinnett and Kristi (Mendenhall) Turner. She also leaves behind a great friend and father of her children, Thomas Weller, her four nephews, Jason Heywood, Justin Heywood, Scott Giles, and Christopher Giles, and her niece, Leanne Heywood.
For the last 7 years Shirlene lived with her best friend and caretaker Doris Parent who she adored immensely. Doris and her boyfriend Bob Robbins were the kind of friends that Shirlene, by her own admission, “prayed that she would find”.
Shirlene loved to go site-seeing and shopping at the local lawn sales and thrift stores with Doris and Bob. She adored jewelry, teddy bears, flowers, pocketbooks, and watching the Wizard of Oz. She always looked forward to visits from her brother Mark and her father Albert when he was alive.
Shirlene attended High School in Lewiston and most recently attended a program at Pine Tree Society (formerly known as Twarog) where she enjoyed spending time with her friends, making crafts, knitting, scrap booking, and sending occasional emails to her twin girls.
In 2007 she had the great privilege of meeting her adult twin daughters for the first time and was able to build a loving relationship with them over the years.
In Christmas 2020 Shirlene also reconnected with her friend Thomas Weller. On Christmas day Shirlene, Thomas, and Kelly and Kristi had their first conversation together (virtually) – something none of them thought would ever be possible. Christmas was Shirlene’s favorite time of the year.
Those who knew Shirlene will remember her as a very lovable, caring, funny, emotional, jokester who had the inner strength most people hope for, and few will ever experience fully. She was resilient and let nothing dimmish her light and love for the people she held dear to her heart - something we could all learn from Shirlene and take with us as we remember her with love.
A visitation will be held for Shirlene on Wednesday January 5th, 2022, at the Fortin Group Funeral Home located at 217 Turner Street Auburn, ME 04210. A graveside service will also be held on Thursday, January 6th, 2022, at 10:00am at the Gracelawn Memorial Park located at 980 Turner St, Auburn, ME 04210.
