Shirley L. Mansir

AUBURN – Shirley L Mansir, 80 of Portland, Maine, died on May 2, 2015 at Auburn Hospice House. She was born on August 20, 1934, the daughter of Lawrence and Dorothy (Dow) Mansir. Shirley graduated from Gardiner High School in 1952, continuing her education graduating from Central Maine General Hospital School of Nursing on September 9, 1955. She later furthered her nursing training going to Concord, New Hampshire Psychiatric Hospital and the Charles V. Chapin Communicable Disease for 3 month training in Providence Rhode Island. She worked at Central Maine General Hospital in the surgical and medical unit. She later graduated from Boston University to become one the early Nurse Practitioners. She worked in Portland in a private doctor’s office, Togus VA in Augusta, and Maine Medical Center, completing her nursing career as a discharge planning Nurse. Shirley traveled to many places with Dorothy Shaw and other friends. She had many hobbies to include gardening, tennis, golf, playing bridge and skiing. She was a dedicated volunteer teacher at Maine Handicap Skiing. She is survived by her loving companion Fred Rooney of Albany Township, with whom she also traveled extensively. They enjoyed many days of skiing in Maine, Europe, and Western USA. She spent many happy days at their cabin. She is also survived by her brother Richard Mansir and wife Harriet of Randolph. Sisters Barbara Lamphier, Phyllis Stultz and husband Don, Linda Smith of West Gardiner, Dianne McKenney of Sidney, Donna Hinckley and husband Ray of Manchester, and Pamela Mansir of Augusta. Shirley was predeceased by her parents. The family and friends would like to specially thank the staff at Clover Care and Hospice House of Auburn for the exceptional care given to Shirley.
