

Sabattus, ME - Sonia J. Woodrum, 85, of Sabattus, Maine passed away on August 9, 2024. She was born in Lewiston, Maine in August of 1938 to Edna Woodbury and Charles Whitehouse. She graduated from Lewiston High School in 1956. In 1958, Sonia enlisted in the USAF where she met her future husband Rodney Woodrum. Together, they traveled the country until their return to Sabattus, in 1973. In 1974, Sonia received her Associates Degree in Liberal Arts. From 1975 to 1976, she served in the Maine National Guard. During that time, she also worked as a teacher’s aide for Wales Central School. Later in 1975, she began working at Sabattus Post Office where she stayed until her retirement in 1999.
Sonia’s interests were varied. She was an avid artist since the 1980s and was well-known for her paintings. She was a beekeeper and served as Secretary for Sagadahoc County Beekeepers Association. She was Treasurer at the Maine State Association of Emblem Clubs, Lewiston. She was Marshall, and Associate Conductress of Lakeside #60, Order of the Eastern Star in Sabattus. Sonia was Financial Secretary, Press Correspondent, Marshall, Associate Marshall, Vice President and President of the Lewiston Emblem Club. In addition to all those ventures she volunteered time with the March of Dimes, the Emblem Canteen at the Elks Lodge in Lewiston and Catholic Charities of Maine. Sonia’s family and friends were also a huge part of her life. She loved to visit with young and old alike. But, mostly, she enjoyed her farm and gardening. In fact, she is probably watering and weeding those heavenly gardens right now.
Sonia is survived by her daughter Lisa S. Roy and son Jeffry D. Woodrum. She is also survived by her grandson Heath L. Woodrum, granddaughter Kristin Warner and great-grandchildren Shaylee and Kamden Warner. Sonia was predeceased by her parents Edna Woodbury and Charles Whitehouse, her sister Elaine Lachance, and her love Rodney L. Woodrum.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation on Monday, August 19th from 9 – 11 am at The Fortin Group, 217 Turner Street, Auburn followed by a memorial service at 11 am and a small ceremony at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Sabattus.
