

Lewiston-Thomas Hunter SR. 91, of Schooner Estates, Auburn, formerly of 94 Beach Rd. Monmouth died Tuesday November 1, 2011 at Russell Park Manor with his family at his side. He was born in Cumberland RI on July 15, 1920 a son of the late Matthew and Emily (Cotrell) Hunter. He graduated from Pittsfield High school in NH class of 1938, and moved to Maine in 1939. Tom married the love of his life the former Dorothy Marie Hoffmann on October 15, 1945. Tom Proudly served in the US Army Air force was honorable discharged as a Sergeant. He worked for Edward's Mill in Augusta and the Continental Mill in Lewiston as a supervisor of the Weave Room. He later went on to work for Bates College as assistant superintendent of buildings and grounds, he retired in 1982. Tom was a former member of: the First Congregational Church of Hallowell, Federated Church in Lewiston, now the Calvary Methodist Church and The High St Congregational Church in Auburn. He was most recently a member of the United Church of Monmouth, serving as a trustee for several years. Tom was also a member of the Congregational Society of the United Church of Monmouth, the Ashlar Lodge # 105, in September 1987 at Boston he was coroneted a member of the Supreme Council of Sovereign Grand Inspector General 33rd. Degree of The Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite of the Northern Masonic Jurisdiction of the USA, the Kora Temple, Horizon 55 and the Lions Club in Monmouth. Tom enjoyed music especially playing his trumpet, he was an original member of the Hallowell Community Band. He leaves his wife of 66 years, Dorothy, a daughter Constance Ayotte and her husband Frank, two sons Thomas Hunter Jr, and his soul mate Glenys Michaud and William Hunter and his wife Carmen, six grandchildren: Christopher Ayotte, Jennifer Hunter, Thomas Hunter III, Audrey McAnony, Jessica Hunter-House, and Kevin Hunter, five great grandchildren; Peter, Anna, Kayden, Emily, and Ethan, a brother Matthew Hunter Jr. and his wife Elsie, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by a sister Ellen and two brothers Ralph and David. Visitation Fortin Auburn Saturday 9AM- 12 PM. A Masonic Service will be held at 10 Am. Funeral service will follow at 12 Noon at the funeral home. Committal will follow at Gracelawn Memorial Park.
