August 13,1926-January 19, 2021
Amanda James Petsas Parker, loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother passed away at the age of 94 leaving a legacy of faith and service. A banker by profession, Amanda invested her life in raising her six children and making sure they were each introduced to the saving power of Jesus Christ. The result of that investment is reflected in the decades of service by her children and grandchildren in church planting, music ministry, missions, education, public service, and non-profit leadership. Together with her loving husband Robert, Amanda did whatever was necessary to thrive in times of plenty and scarcity, babysitting neighborhood children, taking in laundry, and modeling a life of hard work and discipline.
Amanda loved sharing her rich Greek heritage through food, language and with her ever-present Greek bible and other Greek texts. Her talent for sewing, crochet and other crafts resulted in a showering of gifts on her friends and family. Matching dresses for the girls and shirts for the boys helped identify her little ones on family outings. Cooking and cleaning and keeping house for 8 people while working outside the home modeled a work ethic and a sense of responsibility that carries on in the next generation.
Amanda was preceded in death by her husband, Robert, and son-in-law Brian Cowder. She will be greatly missed by her six children: Darleen Hampson (Bill), Gloria Cowder (Mark Crinklaw), Marietta Rhodes (Randy), Daryl Parker (Barbara), Rob Parker (Stephanie) Nancy Beaucaire (Jerry) and 14 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren. Her family is eternally grateful to Nancy and her family for their loving care for Amanda in their home during her last days.
