We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Bernie, a beloved figure in our community. He had a remarkable ability to connect with others, whether he was coaching kids on local sports teams or donning the red suit as Santa Claus at his store for nearly 600 children every year. His warmth, kindness, and dedication left a lasting mark on everyone he met. He was more than just a coach or a Santa-he was a friend, and a source of joy. His legacy will live on in the countless lives he touched.
Bernie was a man born with a gift of gab; there wasn’t a person he didn’t enjoy talking to.
He cultivated countless friendships and once you were a friend of his, you were a friend for life, never forgotten.
Bernie was about as competitive as a man can get. He loved sports and there wasn’t a bet he wouldn’t take. But, his passion in sports was especially strong on the golf course. I am sure there are a lot of people that will read this and recollect how much money they lost to him over the years LOL. Or, seeing him miss an important putt and yell something like “Well Sh*t Fire and Save Matches!” He brought respect and excitement to every game of golf he played.
He spent over 30 years living at Rio Bravo Country Club with his wife, Lauri, where they were married on the 9th green. They played golf as often as they could, and their family was where he shared and spread the most love. They truly lived a life they adored. He took beach trips often with his kids and grandkids and always wanted to know what all the kids and grandkids were up to. He was so proud of everyone in his family.
Bernie was born in Taft but grew up and lived in Bakersfield his entire life. He attended South High School and went on to college at New Mexico Military Institute in Roswell, NM where he was a dedicated football player and formed strong, lasting bonds with his teammates.
Bernie is survived by his loving wife, Lauri, daughter Johanna Sciumbato (Brandon), and son Jarrett Jamieson (Tara). Grandchildren, Chase Jamieson (Alexis), Summer Eyherabide (Stephen), Matt Sciumbato, Morgan Sciumbato, Ben Jamieson, and Payton Jamieson. Great grandchildren, Poppy, Brody, Kimzey and another baby coming soon that he was so excited for. He is also survived by his brother Tom Jamieson (Terri) who was not only his brother, but a lifelong friend and mentor.
A special thanks to all the people that were so caring over the years, and Hoffman Hospice that created calm and peace. Per his request, services will be private.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. We invite all who knew Bernie to honor his memory by taking a moment to raise a glass, share a smile, and recall the funniest or most captivating story you have of him—then take a sip in his honor.
