July 14, 1961 – November 15, 2024
Bakersfield – Brett Lynn Selz was born July 14, 1961 to Luis and Helen (Pat) Selz, in Bakersfield, CA. He and his older sister Lisa grew up in the Greenfield area and attended McKee School and Greenfield Jr. High. During high school his first job was milking cows for a couple local dairies before and after school. He graduated from Bakersfield High School in 1979.
After high school he moved to Binger, Oklahoma and worked on his cousin's farm. He later returned to Bakersfield and married Jan (Lester) Selz on April 27, 1985. Brett attended Oklahoma State Horseshoeing School in Ardmore, Oklahoma in 1988.
Brett and Jan had three children, daughter Taylor, and sons, Lane and Clay. Brett spent the majority of his adult life as a welder and perfected his craft. He enjoyed fishing, rodeos, talk radio, good music fabricating belt buckles and spurs. Brett loved spending time with his wife and children and devoted his life to his family. One of his greatest and most honorable titles was being promoted to Grandpa to his grandchildren, Tyler, Dutch and Taryn. Brett was an excellent husband, father, grandpa, brother and friend. He loved the Lord and was baptized with Jan on April 1, 2018. Brett was known for his 'one of a kind' character, quick wit and sense of humor. He could make anyone laugh and usually had a nickname for most people.
Brett passed away November 15, 2024 after a two and a half year battle with cancer. His grit and strength through this trial was inspiring. His motto was 'Be a Warrior not a Worrier'. Brett is preceded in death by his parents Luis and Pat Selz. He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Jan Selz, his daughter and son-in-law Taylor and Payden Grove, granddaughters Tyler and Taryn Grove, son and daughter-in-law Lane and Devon Selz, grandson Dutch Selz, son Clay Selz, his sister and brother-in-law Lisa and Barney Eyraud and many more family and friends.
