Carol Barbara Colwell

Carol passed away peacefully at her home in Bakersfield with her children by her side due to metastatic cancer.

A Celebration of Life will be held, Friday, 07/02/21 at 10:00 am at Hillcrest Memorial Park, 9101 Kern Canyon Road, Bakersfield, CA 93306

Carol was born on July 4th, 1936, in Atlantic, Massachusetts to Arthur Thomas McGarry and Jesse Marion McGarry (Hamm). She was raised with her four siblings, sister, Frances, and brothers, Arthur, James, and Thomas, in Milton, Massachusetts where she attended school.

She lived in many states and cities working different careers until she became a cook before moving to Bakersfield, California where she finally met the love of her life, Shirmey Austin Colwell. They married on May 7th, 2003.

Carol loved to travel and went on many trips with friends and family. She loved to garden, bake, and visit with her friends as often as possible. They would play Bingo 10, Bunco, or have potlucks together at “the park.” She was always on the go and loved to keep busy. She deeply loved spending time with her family and thoroughly enjoyed having them all over for delicious Thanksgiving meals that her and Shirm would prepare.

Carol is preceded in death by her husband Shirmey Colwell, her son Kenneth Gosselin, and daughter Darlene Gosselin, her sister Frances Moonoogian, brothers Arthur, Thomas, and James McGarry, and step granddaughter Jennifer Otts.

Carol is survived by son, Keith Gosselin, son Thomas (Kath) MacNeill, son Chris MacNeill, daughter Rhonda (Glen) Grundeis, stepdaughter Debi (Craig) Fraley, stepdaughter Betsy (Leo) Wingle, stepson David (Joanie) Alderete.

Her grandchildren, Mandi (Manuel) Duarte, Renee (Trevor) Easley, Karlee Grundeis, Garret (Caryssa) Grundeis, Tyler Gosselin, Daniel Gosselin, Logan Gosselin. Her step grandchildren Christopher (Melissa) Colwell, Brooke (Danny) Williams, Lorelei Colwell, Patrick Otts, and Angela (Dave) Lawrence, Matt (Stephanie) Fraley, John (Kim Barrier) Fraley, Myra (Mike) Bosco, and Cherrine (Andrew) Ferguson.

Her great grandchildren, Hunter Gosselin, Tristan Duarte, and baby Grundeis due in October. Her step great grandchildren Ostin Colwell, Rion Williams, Holley Williams, Daven Colwell, Cherry Colwell, Leianna Woolf, Megan Otts, Amber Fraley, Reed Fraley, Ariya Bosco, Garrett (Codie) Boscoe, Calen Geary, and Chase Eatmon.

Step great great grandchildren, Giovanni Bosco, Lilliann Bosco, Vincent Bosco, Sebastian Linder and Avery Rose Lindner.

We miss her so very much and will forever cherish our beautiful memories held in our hearts and minds. She loved her family and friends so very much. We are comforted by our faith that she is at peace with our Lord in heaven.

Our family would like to express our sincere gratitude to Bristol Hospice and their staff for their wonderful care and compassion for our beloved mother, especially her nurses Stephanie and Juanita.

In lieu of flowers the family would appreciate donations be made to Bristol Hospice of Bakersfield or Cancer Research Institute.
