October 8, 1921 - October 3, 2010
Bruce was born on October 8, 1921 in Bakersfield, CA to Clyde E. and Doris Stickler. He died peacefully after a short illness on October 3, 2010, five days short of his 89th birthday. Bruce was oldest of four brothers Russell, Wayne and Don. He loved his brothers and they would share many stories when the bothers and their families got together.
Bruce was a true salesman at heart and had a natural talent of remembering your name. He worked for his father at Valley Office Supply and Valley Office School Co. (VOSCO) He started and owned Bruce Sticker’s Office Supply, State School Supply, and Guild Office Supply. He was very active and knowledgeable in the school supply and office supply business. He loved to meet interesting people and was always a friend to everyone. Bruce served his community. He was a long time member of the Westchester Kiwanis Club, founding member of SIRS (Sons In Retirement), Blue Lodge of Free Masons, 32 Degree Mason, Bakersfield Scottish Rites, Al Malaikah Shriners, Navy League, and devoted to his church, the First Congregational Church of Bakersfield. He was a Past President of the Boys and Girls Club of Bakersfield, Executive Club of Bakersfield, and the Selective Service Board. There was never a fundraiser for the youth in our area that he was not involved in. His heart was huge when it came to serving the youth in Bakersfield.
Bruce loved to travel to the family cabin at Lake Tahoe. He loved to read, travel, play golf, fish, walking the neighborhood in the Westchester area, watch the Los Angeles Dodgers, watch USC Trojan football, attended BC football games, and visiting with their grandchildren.
Bruce is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Jean and their four children and their spouses, Gerald Stickler of Nipomo, CA; Craig and wife Nancy Stickler of Bakersfield, CA; Janet and husband Melvin de la Motte of San Luis Obispo, CA; and Brent and wife Sande Stickler of Alta Loma, CA. He was the grandfather of 13 grandchildren and the great-grandfather to 13 children. Bruce is also survived by his brother Wayne Stickler of Atascadero.
His greatest love was to his family. He always wanted to hear about what they were doing and what they were planning. He created a bond with his family that will never be broken.
Bruce always had a smile on his face and said “thank you” when you served him. He appreciated your loving kindness, especially Sally Bryant and Bernice Joiner and to his many loving friends at Evergreen Healthcare. Dad will be greatly missed by his family and anyone who had the privilege to know this kind and considerate man.
