Donald Richard Helm

Donald Richard Helm, known to his loved ones as Don, passed away peacefully on October 14, 2023, in Bakersfield, California, at the age of 88. Don was born on January 13, 1935, in Chandler, Oklahoma. He was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who cherished his family above all else.

Don was a man of integrity, known for his honesty, hard work, patience, and compassion. He held a strong faith in Jesus Christ as the Lord of his life. In his free time, Don enjoyed fishing and watching his children and grandchildren participate in various sports and activities. He was a true family man, always prioritizing his loved ones' needs before his own. Don had a knack for staying busy and productive, often creating projects when there were none. He was also a deeply private individual.

Don is survived by his loving wife, Carol A Helm, his daughters Molly J. Helm and Holly Helm, his granddaughter Brittany N. Vandenhoek, his grandsons Raymond Jay Stewart and Amber D. Stewart, and his great-granddaughters Paige Bridges, Delaiyne Bridges, and Sylvia Jeanne Escabedo. He was preceded in death by his father, Guy G Helm, his mother, Hazel M Helm, his daughter Sandra J Stewart, and his sons Harold Helm and Raymond Helm.

Don attended Bakersfield High School for his education. He went on to have a successful career as a meat cutter with Safeway stores, Vons stores, and as a manager of the meat department in Vibe's market. Later, he became the proud owner of Helm's Old Fashioned Meat Market. Don also worked as a salesman at BMW of Bakersfield and served as the lease portfolio manager.

As a charter member of Valley Baptist Church in Bakersfield, California, Don found solace and community in his faith. The funeral services for Don will be held on October 26, 2023, with a graveside service at 2:00 p.m. at Hillcrest Memorial Park, located at 9101 Kern Canyon Rd., Bakersfield, CA 93306. A Celebration of Life service will take place on October 27, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at Valley Baptist Church, 4800 Fruitvale Ave., Bakersfield, CA 93308.

The compassionate staff at Hillcrest Memorial Park has been entrusted with the arrangements for Don's final journey.

A graveside service for Donald will be held Thursday, October 26, 2023 from 2:00 PM to 2:30 PM at Funeraria Del Angel Hillcrest, 9101 Kern Canyon Road, Bakersfield, CA 93306.
