After a difficult health battle, Donald Wayne Williams passed away peacefully on February 29, 2024. Known as Don, and affectionately "Donny," he was a beloved husband, brother, father, uncle, grandfather and friend.
Don was a charismatic individual, blending a feisty demeanor with an infectious sense of humor. Don embodied a unique blend of gentleness and strength, with a heart that was tender and sensitive, yet fortified by an inner resilience that made him remarkably tough and strong. He was a dedicated family man, a dog lover who always had a canine companion by his side, and a mechanically minded fix-it-dad, who also had a quiet passion for art. He found immense joy in embarking on trips with his wife of 43 years. Don always enjoyed a great rock-n-roll song, a fast race and good barbecue.
In his professional life, Don began his career as a mechanic for Halliburton, and worked his way up the corporate ladder before moving to Rain for Rent. His career afforded him the privilege of traveling the nation, taking him from the Yukon of Alaska to the volcanic landscapes of Hawaii, all while consistently considering Bakersfield his home. Notably, he contributed to the recovery efforts after Hurricane Katrina in 2005, while working with Rain for Rent.
Don will be forever remembered and cherished by his surviving family members, including his wife, Lucy Williams; sister and brother-in-law, Donna and Stephen Griffith; his daughters and son-in-laws, Jacqueline and James Schwind, and Jennifer and Brad Cordova. He was blessed with grandchildren, Ofelia Cordova, and Barrett and Ella Schwind. He was also the most beloved companion to his loyal schnauzer, Buddy.
Don was preceded in death by his parents, Don and Arlene Williams.
While his physical body gave way, his spirit endured until the end. Don used his last breaths to express his love for his beloved wife and girls. His legacy of strength and love will forever remain in the hearts of those he touched.
