Donna Fern Roberts

Donna was born in Bakersfield California to Leo and Tina Black. She was one of five children. Donna attended Standard School and Bakersfield High School. She recently celebrated her 60th high school reunion with several friends that visited her home. Donna grew up in the same North of the River neighborhood as Earl Roberts, her husband of 35 years. She married Earl as he served in the U.S. Air Force in 1952. They moved into their home in Oildale on Valentine's Day 1957 where Donna lived until the last two days of her life. She was a devoted and loving wife to Earl until his death in 1988. Donna loved being surrounded by family and friends. She spent her life being involved in everything her two sons, Wade and Kent, loved to do. She was a school room mother, community volunteer, PTA President, Cub Scout den mother, and baseball scorekeeper. She also enjoyed camping and fishing. Donna worked as a school librarian at Standard School from 1989-2006. Donna loved giving gifts to her five grandchildren and she enjoyed watching all the grandkids' activities. She always remembered birthdays and special occasions her family was involved in. Donna enjoyed giving Hallmark Christmas ornaments and nativity scene pieces each year. She is survived by her sons and daughter-in-laws; Wade and Marti Roberts, Kent and Lorrie Roberts; grandchildren; Clint and Rachel Roberts and great grandchildren, Cora and Eleanor; Brandon Roberts and fiancee Amy Matakovich; grand-daughters; Amanda, Brittney, and Chelsey Roberts; her sisters and families; Bonnie Winders, and Connie Gilbert, sister-in-law; Marion Owen; long- time friend, Gerald Smith and many nieces, nephews and cousins. The family would like to thank Hoffmann Hospice for their care and kindness. We would like to thank all of her caregivers and lifelong friends that spent countless hours visiting and comforting her through-out her lengthy illness. Services will be held at Hillcrest Memorial Park on Saturday October 20th at 10:00 am. Visitation will be Friday evening the 19th from 4:00-8:00 pm.
