Earlene was born to Claud and Emma Williams in Vernon, Texas. She had two siblings, Claud Jr and Dartha Nell.
The family lived in a farming community very much affected by the war and depression. At the age of 15 they decided to move to Alameda, California, to work in the shipyards. Earlene graduated from Alameda High School in June of 1945 and was married to Edward Smith in November of 1945. Soon after, the family moved back to Texas and Edward and Earlene moved to Bakersfield, California, where she spent the rest of her life.
They had two sons, Terry and David Smith.
Earlene was a working mom, when it wasn't the thing to do. She needed to help the family financially because Edward was legally blind. She was a hard worker, and her skills allowed her to work at a local law firm, then for the County of Kern, as Deputy Clerk of the Board of Supervisors. Earlene retired after 23 years of service.
In retirement she enjoyed being a lifelong member of the Church of Christ, traveling, gardening, and loved being at all family gatherings. Her last and most special was her 97th birthday party last month.
She is survived by her Sister Dartha Nell Shaul, sister-in-law Nell Williams, sons Terry (Judy), David (Jan), grandchildren Chad (Courtney), Leah (Mike), Lindsay (Chase), Kristen (Joel), and Brian. Great grandchildren Dax, Drew, Chloe, Kenzie, Piper, Isla, and Lewis, Nephews Shane (LeeAnn), Jimmy and niece Carla, and many relatives.
Preceding Earlene in death are her parents, husband of 54 years, brother, brother-in-law, and many relatives and friends.
Thank you to Sage Care 2 for the wonderful love and care of her as she peacefully went to be with the Lord. She was very much loved, and her warm smile and hugs will be missed greatly.
Celebration of Life is scheduled for Thursday April 10th @ 12:30 Westside Church of Christ 7300 Stockdale Hwy, Bakersfield, California
