Elizabeth "June" Olson May

June was born December 10, 1921 in Illinois to Edward and Lois Olson. She has one sister, Doris Clemmons (88), who is living in Hernando, Florida. They had a brother, Vernon, who died at a very young age. June was married to Vernon May for 60 years! Together they have one daughter, Diana Reed.

When Vernon retired as a delivery truck driver in Blue Island, Illinois, he and June moved to Redington Shores, Florida where they spent over 20 wonderful years living near the ocean. They never depended on material things for their happiness. They were always ready to help when their friends or neighbors needed them. After Vernon passed away in 2004, June came to Bakersfield to live with her daughter. Five years ago, Diana's husband, David, suffered a stroke. June helped her daughter care for David until she fell and broke her hip. Released from the rehab hospital and still in a wheelchair, June moved into an assisted living facility. While living at Pacifica Senior Living for almost 3 years, June made many friends and continued to do what she did best -- help others. She could always be found pushing someone in a wheelchair, helping someone with their meal, or just generally fussing over another resident who needed assistance.

June was a very hard-working woman. She was a devoted homemaker. Everyone said that if you gave her a broom and a dust cloth she would be in heaven! If there was a job to do, she was going to help do it. No way could you get her to sit and watch. If the job could be done today, then do it - don't wait until tomorrow!

June loved her family - her grandson, Tyler Reed, and her granddaughter, Carrie Reed. She took tremendous joy in her three great-grandchildren, Lyndsey (12), Ryan (3), and Morgan (7). To her, family was everything. She spent her last day on this earth enjoying a fun family get-together. It was a very good Sunday, and the next morning her tired heart stopped.
