Floretta Pearl Lock

Floretta Lock April 12, 1933 - August 16, 2011 After a courageous battle with emphysema, Floretta (Flo) Lock went to be with the Lord on August 16, 2011. Flo was born to Herman and Birdie Hoefar in Dill City, Oklahoma and moved with her family to California at the age of 8 years old. Flo was a devoted Christian who loved the Lord and member of Heritage Bible Church and also attended Bible Study Classes at Laurelglen Bible Church where she made many close friends. Flo was also a member of the Beta Chi Sorority for many years. Flo leaves behind a brother Jesse Hoefar (Sara Jane), two sons, Ronnie Lock (Frances) and Dale Lock (Gail), a daughter Janice Karns (Dale Craig), She also leaves behind the great joys in her life, her grandchildren; Kristel Coleman, Dustin Lock, Joshua Karns, Derek Karns, Sierra Lock, and four great-grandchildren Jade and Josiah Coleman; Shelby and Miley Lock, and step-grandchild Jay Burrows. Flo married Leo Lock on December 29, 1951 and was a dedicated homemaker for 35 years until cancer took Leo's life in 1987. Flo and Leo spent many wonderful years together and loved going on camping trips with the family. After Leo's passing, Flo went to work for the Bakersfield City School District as a Cafeteria Baker and worked for the School District for 15 years. During this time she met Dale M. Karns and shared a companionship that lasted 20 years until her passing. Mom will be missed as a loving and caring mother, grandmother and mother-in-law who loved to cook for family, her "Okie" style cooking was unequaled. Mom would do anything to help a family member or friend in need and she especially loved the holidays. The family would like to thank all the skilled staff at Glenwood Gardens for their care and compassion and Dr. Aziz for his personal care during Flo's battle with emphysema. Visitation will be held Friday, August 19, 2011, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Hillcrest Memorial Park, 9101 Kern Canyon Road. Chapel services will be held at the same location on Saturday, August 20, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. Immediately following the services, there will be a celebration of life held at Heritage Bible Church, 2323 Mount Vernon Ave, Bakersfield, California.
