July 4, 1940 – February 25, 2020
Herbert Allen Lemley, 79, of Bakersfield California, passed away on February 25,
2020 at home peacefully with his family by his side. Born on July 4, 1940 in Yuma
Arizona. Herbert graduated from Shafter High School in 1959. Right out of high
school he enlisted in the U.S. Army. Upon completion of boot camp in October 1959
he went off to Germany. After 28 months of the NCO academy in Oxford Germany he
received his 3rd stripe and was promoted to Sergeant class E-5 where his specialty
was in Artillery. He returned home in August 1962 with an honorable discharge.
Herbert started work right away in the oil field business and retired in 2003 from
Chevron Texaco. Herbert enjoyed playing softball and was a big fan of the LA
Dodgers. He loved being in the sun and playing the lotto. He was a great handyman
and took joy in always helping his friends & neighbors and was the most loving,
caring, kind man one could ever know. Herbert was welcomed into Heaven by his
parents Haskell & Bertha Lemley and is survived by his sister Barbara Sue Shepherd
& husband Gene Shepherd of Texas, daughter Michell Diane Atkins of Maui Hawaii,
daughter Stephanie Rae Hickle & husband James E. Hickle Jr., granddaughter
Tiffanie Maye Hickle, grandson Jarrett James Hickle & wife Mary Hickle, great
granddaughter Addilee Rose Hickle, and stepson Mark Pittser from Bakersfield CA.
Viewing will be held at Hillcrest Memorial Park – 9101 Kern Canyon Rd., Bakersfield CA on Sunday March 8, 2020 @ 5-9pm, Services to follow Monday March 9, 2020 at 10am.
