Larry Pipkins was born January 12, 1949 in Bakersfield, California. He later moved to Tehachapi, California where he graduated in 1967 from Tehachapi High. After high school, he joined the Navy from 1968 to 1970. He served in Vietnam from 1969 to 1970. After the Navy, he married and had five children: Derek, Darin, Justin, Jamie, and Amber. Larry later remarried Linda Wilson, which added two more children Tammy and Tina to his family.
In his early years he enjoyed being with his children. He and his family took yearly trips to the lake where they would enjoy boating and fishing. Larry was a big movie buff and loved to watch movies as soon as they came out. He loved movies so much that he opened a video store called "Pop's Video" in Bakersfield, California. Larry was a man of all trades. You could always find him building or fixing things up. If Larry were not with his wife and kids or making something, you could always find him at the El Cortez with his mom and dad. He knew everyone at the casino, and they all loved them some "Pops".
In his later years, Larry loved to be at the baseball and softball fields watching his grandchildren play the sports they loved. He loved his weeklong camping trips to Silver Lake where he would fish and relax with his family and friends. He enjoyed golfing with his son Darin on Saturdays and going to family barbecues on Sunday, where he would watch whatever sport was on TV while his great grandchildren played around him.
Larry is preceded in death by his parents Warren and Novella Pipkins, and brother Phil Pipkins. He leaves behind his wife, seven children, fourteen grandchildren, and nine great grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Hill Crest in Bakersfield, California on March 19,2021 at 10 am.
