Maebell Johnson

Maebell Johnson was born in Bakersfield, California on August 26, 1929, to parents Clarence and Alna Rodgers. She lived in the Shafter/Bakersfield area for many years as well as the Los Angeles area for several years.

Maebell was married to Lee Johnson and raised five children. She is preceded in death by her husband, as well as daughters Diana Johnson Danielson, Marsha Johnson, and Jennifer Johnson. Her living children are Timothy Johnson and Cynthia Johnson Bohanan. Maebell has many grandchildren and great grandchildren. Her family preceded her in death - parents Clarence Tay Rodgers and Alna York Rodgers Methany, and sisters Roxana Rodgers Weber, Dortha Rodgers Mann, and Erma Lee Rodgers.

Her family was involved in the Shafter Church of Christ while growing up, with her father being the song leader. Maebell loved gospel music, singing four-part harmony with her father and sisters. Listening and singing to gospel music was always her passion throughout her life.

She was a dedicated Christian who attended the Church of Christ all her life and especially enjoyed her lady’s bible study friends at Central Church of Christ in Bakersfield. Maebell worked as a hairdresser and as a Teacher’s Assistant (Sunrise Christian School).
