Marjorie was born on February 26, 1943 to David and Marian Poore in San Fernando, California and was one of five girls.
She moved to Kern County with her family who had a dairy farm and where she attended junior high and high school in Arvin, California. After high school, she worked for Brock’s Department Store as an assistant buyer in Bakersfield, California where she met her husband, Scott.
Marjorie worked for 25 years at San Joaquin Community Hospital (now Adventist Health Bakersfield) in medical records and as the hospital’s concierge. But her number one priority was raising her children in a loving and caring home. Her greatest joy was traveling! From trips to Europe, Hawaii, Alaska, the Mediterranean, New York, Chicago and beyond, she adored seeing the world. She loved music and would regularly play hits from Elvis to Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons.
After her retirement, Marjorie enjoyed meeting for lunch with her friends and colleagues and fellow high school students from Arvin.
Marjorie is survived by her husband, Scott Payne, her daughter, Heidi McNaughton and husband, Jarrod, and her son, Matthew Payne and wife, Aileen. Her grandchildren, Sydney Payne and Riley Payne. Her cousins, Lawrence (Larry) Ballew and wife, Rhonda, Linda Owens and husband John Owens, M.D., and Lanvin (Lanny) Ballew and wife, Hope.
Though our hearts are empty with this tremendous loss, we take comfort knowing she as peace and we will see her again in heaven. Her strength, fortitude and unconditional love will remain in our hearts forever.
