June 11, 1950 - October 20, 2017 Mary Jayne Franklin Pollard was born on June 11,1950 in Lubbock, Texas to parents, Bill and Martha Franklin. She died surrounded by family and friends on October 20th after a valiant battle against Multiple Myeloma. Mary was the oldest of six children and a beloved big sister to Diane (Carmelo Adame), Billy, Will(Cindy Franklin), Suzanne (Steve Devers) and Andrew (Tina Franklin.) She moved to Bakersfield, California with her family in 1957 and lived here ever since. She attended local schools and graduated from Foothill High School. She continued on to Cal State Bakersfield, where she received her degree in Liberal Studies. She then enjoyed teaching for the Rosedale school district for30 years, even though she joked “the three best things about teaching were June, July and August.” Mary’s proudest accomplishments were her four children, Kathy (Kevin McMahon), Michelle (AJ Long), Lucia (Kaz Honda) and Wesley (Steffanie Pollard) and her grandchildren; Emma, Will, Emilee, Kylee, Maggie, Rylie Emiko, Libby, Mia, Nessa, Addie and Sloan. Mary’s love of family extended to her daughter of the heart and constant companion, Marina DiPietro and her children Brayton, Andrew (Marlene DiPietro), Austin and Cameron in her final years. Mary was the ultimate girls girl, always had her nails and hair done, sporting purple eye shadow and had the latest perfume. She enjoyed traveling to Hawaii and spending time with her friends. We will miss her big blue eyes and mischievous smile. Mary is survived by her siblings, her children, twelve grandchildren, Marina and her children, twelve nieces and nephews and former spouse Larry Pollard. She is preceded in death by her parents and sister Billy. Services will be held at Hillcrest Memorial 9101 Kern Canyon Rd, Bakersfield, CA 93306 on Monday, October 30th at 11:00AM.
