As a young kid, he attended Harding Elementary, Compton Jr high, and then East Bakersfield High where he was a student athlete and excelled in football. Number 85 is what you saw returning footballs and scoring touchdowns. After High School, he made a career as a welder.
Mely (Joe, Joey, or big Joe) loved riding motorcycles, hunting, and fishing. He was a family man and had a big impact on lots of people’s lives.
He took on a father role for so many people. He was known as Dad to pretty much everyone around him.
As most people know, he was a huge San Francisco 49er fan and friends and family would get together and watch games with him. That was always one of his favorite things to do.
He sadly and unfortunately leaves behind his children Nicole, David, Joseph, Ashleigh, Alan Villagomez, and daughter-in-law Natalie. Grand children Maddison, Alannah, Addison, Christian, Irie, and Serenity.
He will be greatly missed.
A visitation for Mely will be held Tuesday, February 15, 2022 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Hillcrest Memorial Park and Mortuary, 9101 Kern Canyon Road, Bakersfield, CA 93306. A funeral service will occur Wednesday, February 16, 2022 at 1:00 PM at Hillcrest Memorial Park and Mortuary.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.hillcrestmemorial.com for the Villagomez family.
