Phyllis Lynne Gutierrez

Visitation will be from 10:00 am to 11:00 am, April 24, 2026 at Hillcrest Memorial Chapel, 9101 Kern Canyon Road, Bakersfield, CA, 93306.

A committal service will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park, 9101 Kern Canyon Road, Bakersfield, CA 93306, on April 24, 2026, from 11:30 am to 12:30 pm. She will be laid to rest in the Garden of Peace.

Phyllis was born in Los Angeles, CA, to Eulala Frances (Nicely) and Charles M. Allen on December 28, 1942. She went to school at Lakewood High School in Lakewood, CA, class of 1960. She graduated from Long Beach State University with a degree in English in 1963. She married Francisco Gutierrez, III, on April 29, 1972, in Long Beach, CA. She worked as a secretary, most notably for Dr. DeBakey, and as a homemaker. She was involved in Kern Regional Center as an advocate for autistic children and a volunteer with the Kern Literacy Center. She traveled extensively and had a passion for reading and learning. She could touch the tip of her nose with her tongue.

Phyllis is preceded in death by her husband and parents.

Phyllis is survived by her children Lisa Gutierrez and Teresa L. G. Madewell (Eric Sands), grandchildren Ethan Madewell and Teresa C. Madewell, step-grandchildren Conagher Sands, Riley Sands, and Avery Sands, and great-granddaughter Rosalie Madewell.
