Ray was born the youngest of seven children on April 8, 1929 to Alonzo and Monnie Keller in Middlesboro Ky. Five years after the death of Alonzo, when Ray was seven years old, Monnie moved her family to Bakersfield. Ray attended local schools, including Williams Grammar School, Washington Jr. High, and East Bakersfield High schools.
Ray went to work for The City Of Bakersfield at 20, and remained with the City for 40 years. As a Heavy Equipment Operator for the City, Ray was instrumental in the construction
of most of the City Parks in Bakersfield.
Ray was preceded in death by his Parents, Alonzo and Monnie Keller, Sisters and spouses, Lena (Charlie) Emerson, Ima (Sheldon) Frost, and Brothers and spouses Earl, Clyde (Ruth), Charles, and Brother in-law Roy Johnson. Granddaughter Amanda (Keller) Potter, Great Grandsons, Ronald Potter, and Wyatt Coffman.
Ray is survived by his wife of 65 years, Maxine, Son Don Keller, and wife Jacqui, Son Ron Keller, and wife Pam, and Daughter Robin and husband Greg Darter. He also had 9 Grandchildren, and 16 Great Grandchildren.
Ray and Maxine loved to travel. After retirement; they visited 47 of our 50 states, missing only North Dakota, Alaska, and Hawaii. They had many cross country adventures with their Brothers and Sisters, always returning with trunks full of trinkets and memories.
The Family would like to say a Special “Thank You” to Optimal Hospice for all of the care given to Ray in his last months, and also to Samaritan Group Home. Barbara, Roxanne, Jenny, Susanna, and Buckey, you made his last days bearable.
