June 9, 1934 – June 20, 2023
Rosa “Rosie” Aguirre passed away peacefully in Bakersfield at the age of 89.
Born on June 9, 1934 in Fillmore, California together with her sister and her four brothers.
Rosa married her lifelong companion, Moses Aguirre in 1951.
Together they raised five children, Raymond Aguirre, Dickie Aguirre (Ophelia), Fred Aguirre (Debbie), June Martin (Russell), and Moses Aguirre (Monica). After Moses’s retirement, she and her husband Moses spent many years together tending to the baseball fields for JBA and, later, Northwest Baseball near Sam Lynn Ballpark. The complex was dedicated to Moses and Rosie Aguirre in March 2007, and they made many more friends throughout their retirement years.
Rosa worked most of her early life in farm labor in Fillmore and then eventually in the packing sheds in Edison. She continued to work for more than 25 years as she raised their family.
Rosa was a many things to many people. She said what she meant and she meant what she said. She lived her life with no regrets, was honest, direct and did not hold her punches. She could also make you laugh and enjoyed watching her family grow, including the extended families of her children and their families. Rosa loved people watching, loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She really cherished their hugs and kisses.
Rosa was preceded in death by her parents Florintino and Maria Soto, her husband of 69 years, Moses Aguirre, along with her four brothers and her granddaughter Andrea Aguirre.
Those left to remember her unique and loving personality are her five children, their families, 11 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, her sister Natie, and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Although she never played golf, Rosa surprised everyone later in life as she enjoyed watching her favorite PGA players on TV most weekends.
In lieu of flowers, Rosa’s memory may be honored by a contribution to the Northwest Bakersfield Baseball Association.
Visitation will be available on Wednesday July 5th between 5:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. at Hillcrest Memorial Park. A Celebration of Life will be held Thursday July 6th at 1:00 p.m. at Hillcrest Memorial Park.
