Ross Charles Lane was born in Bakersfield, California on March 12, 1981. As a fraternal twin, he was the youngest child of Michael and Martha Lane by ten minutes. Ross grew up on the family farm outside of Shafter, California. He attended St. Francis School, and then graduated from Garces Memorial High School.
Raised as a Catholic, Ross served as an altar boy and completed all of his sacraments. A naturally talented athlete, he lettered in both varsity basketball and football, receiving All-Area honors for both defense and offense. He participated in 4-H for ten years, showing pigs at Cow Palace and the Kern County Fair. As a child, he was a shy boy, his twin Kyle would often speak for him. Although quiet, he was a studious observer and a loyal friend.
After high school, he moved to Fresno, California and attended Fresno State. Ross had an incredible work ethic from childhood that carried on throughout his adult life. He always had a job. Interested in agriculture, Ross moved back home to Bakersfield and started working for the family business, Sill Properties. He started at the bottom, driving a water truck. In five short years, Ross's work ethic and tenacity moved him up to management. He oversaw all almond production, from development to planting all the way through harvest. He had a particular passion for the pest control portion of agriculture and earned his license in order to manage the spray department.
Ross loved sports. He especially enjoyed wake boarding and snow boarding. He was quite particular when it came to dating. He patiently waited for the right girl to come into his life. In 2011, he met the love of his life, Marisa Brandin. They had a beautiful wedding with family and friends celebrating their love on November 29, 2014 on the California coastline in Carpinteria.
Ross passed away suddenly in his sleep on December 13, 2014. Taken too early from this earth, his family and friends are devastated. We will miss his confidant demeanor, warm smile and passionate enthusiasm. He is survived by his wife, Marisa Brandin Lane, parents Michael Lane and Martha Sill Lane, sister Elissa Lane Watts, (brother-in-law Barry), brother Jared Lane (sister-in-law Melissa), twin brother Kyle Lane (sister-in-law Sherry), nephew Luke Watts, nieces Emma Lane, Ashby Lane, Olivia Watts, Claire Watts, Ryan Lane, and Andi Lane, grandmother Beverly Thornburg Lane, and mother-in law Bette Rogers Brandin.
He was predeceased by grandparents Marvin Lane, Beverly Burriss Sill and Charles Sill.
Funeral will be held at St. Francis Church on Monday, December 22, 2014 at 10:00 am. The family wishes to thank everyone for their love and support. Donations may be made in Ross's honor to the Flood Bakersfield Ministries.
