

Shirley Kay Folkner, often playfully referred to as "Squirrely Shirley", as born on April 8, 1952 in Bakersfield, California where she still resided until passing away peacefully at home on September 10, 2015. Shirley was a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends more than anything else, always showering them with gifts and love and no matter where she went, she would bring all the life and fun with her. She was a child of God and her faith and belief in Jesus Christ was very important to her.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, John and Jean Sandlin; brother, Jimmy Sandlin; and stepson, Bryan Folkner. She is survived by her husband of thirty-seven years, Jim Folkner; youngest daughter, Michelle Folkner; daughter, Leslie Hester and her husband, Jason Hester; granddaughter, Savannah Hester; son, Daniel Folkner; his fiancé, Alise Fillmore; and granddaughter, Eliza Folkner; Daughter, Hannah Kirk and her husband , Rocky Kirk; daughter-in-law, Amy Folkner and grandchildren Emily and Ryan Folkner; stepdaughter, Kim McDonald and her husband, David McDonald, granddaughter, Jessica Recktenwald and her husband Drew Recktenwald; great grandchildren, Chase and Owen Recktenwald; grandson, Justin McDonald; daughter, Mindy Scott and her husband, Aaron Scott; grandsons, Ben Carter and Alex Frank; sister, Patsy Kasinger and her husband, Wayne Kasinger; sister-in-law, Carolyn Sandlin; and many more family members and those she considered family, Shirley never knew a stranger.

Service will be held at Hillcrest Memorial Park on Friday, September 18, 2015 at 1:00 pm. Reception to follow.
