Velvree Miniean Mc Laughlin

in Antlers, OK to Samuel B. and Nora B. (Boykin) Smith. She passed on March 27, 2021 in Morro Bay, CA at the age of 94.

Val grew up in rural Oklahoma where her first profession was teaching 1st-8th graders, which included a few of her younger siblings, in a one-room country school house. She lived over 60 years in Kern County, CA where she was an X-ray technician for over 30 years in Bakersfield, receiving honors and awards for her commitment to her profession. She enjoyed country music and dancing throughout her life and had a passion for collecting miniature carousel horses. She loved spending time with her family and cherished time spent with her great grandchildren later in life.

Val is preceded in death by her husband Charles (Bill) W. McLaughlin; her parents Sam and Nora Smith; brothers Sanford Smith, Edgar Smith, Edward Smith, Clyde Smith, Carl Smith, Wick Smith, and Sam Smith Jr; sisters Larue Sherring, Willie Rae Belcher, Bobbie Franks, and Elma Martin. Val was the last surviving child of Sam and Nora Smith.

She leaves behind a loving family that includes her son Jimmie and wife Connie McLaughlin of Los Osos, CA; grandchildren Ian McLaughlin and wife Alicia, and Shelly Greenfield and husband Jeffrey; great grandchildren Kenzie and William McLaughlin, and Yosepha, Chayson, and Aidan Greenfield.

A private memorial service was held on date at Greenlawn Southwest Cemetary in Bakersfield, CA where she was laid to rest beside her husband Charles W. McLaughlin.
