1937 - 2020
We lost our beloved father and Pappaw on Thursday, October 29, 2020. "Wayne" as he was best known was born in Grady, Oklahoma on August 21, 1937. He was the last of seven children born to Henry Leonard Roberts and Lota Mae Yeates Roberts. He leaves behind three siblings Bernice, Joe & Barbara. He also had four siblings who preceded him to Heaven: Loree, James, Kenneth, and Don Roberts.
Wayne moved to Bakersfield, California from New Orleans, Louisiana, in the summer of 1958.
He met his future wife, Rosie Pieri, a little later in that year and they were married on November 11, 1960.
Wayne started working for some local farmers south of Bakersfield before moving on to Lakeside School where he worked in the custodial department. Later, he moved on to the Superintendent of Schools working in their Maintenance & Operations Department before retiring in 2000 after 25 years.
Wayne enjoyed watching his children and later his grandchildren in athletics and cheerleading. Wayne was a true West High Viking, BC and OU football fan. His love for athletics continued on with his grandkids traveling all over the United States watching softball or he could be found in the football stands watching his grandsons and his granddaughter cheerleading. He was also always present at the boys baseball games and practices as well as choir performances for his granddaughters.
Wayne leaves behind his beloved wife Rosie of 60 years, three children, Darrell (Sherie) Roberts, Lori (Scott) Faulkenberry, and Kellee (Aaron) Walker. He was blessed with 7 grandchildren, Lyndsie (Jimmie) Brooks, Ashlee (Justin) Andreotti, Cody Faulkenberry, Taylor (Clark) White, Madison Walker, Jacob Faulkenberry, and Paige Walker. He also had two great grandsons Lucas Andreotti and Hank Brooks, as well as many nieces and nephews.
A visitation is scheduled from 1 to 5 pm at Hillcrest Memorial Park located at 9101 Kern Canyon Road, Bakersfield, CA. and a graveside service for Wayne will be held at Hillcrest Memorial Park, in the Garden of Memories. on Saturday, November 14, 2020 at 10:00 a.m.. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to your favorite charity.
Wayne's family would like to give a sincere "Thank You" to Fernando Hernandez for his loving care for our father in his last six months.
