It is with great sadness that we announce that Martha Luisa Vickers, 84, born on October 19, 1940, passed away peacefully in her home on May 22, 2025 with her daughter, Mary and granddaughter, Charlotte by her side. Martha was raised in Santiago, Dominican Republic to Juan and Luisa Rodriguez and resided in Lake Isabella at the time of her death.
William Edward Vickers, 94, born on September 14, 1931 passed away the following day on May 23, 2025 due to a tragic car accident where he went off the side of the road. William was born and raised in London, England to William and Alice Vickers. He also resided in Lake Isabella at the time of his death.
Bill and Martha are survived by their children, Kirk and Mary, son-in-law Jason and grandchildren Blake, Max, and Charlotte.
Bill immigrated from England to New York in 1957. Bill met Martha in 1969 while she was vacationing in New York from the Dominican Republic. In just three days, they fell in love and married each other, and she never returned back to the Dominican Republic, but instead they drove across country to California where they settled and had two children, Mary and Kirk.
Bill‘s occupation was a truck driver and Martha’s was primarily a stay at home mom but she also held two or three part-time jobs at times so that Kirk and Mary could go to private school because having a foundation in faith was very important to her. Family was very important to both of them and they loved their children with all they had. They both really enjoyed traveling and experiencing new places together.
They had a beautiful love story of love at first sight. They were immigrants who lived fearlessly and took a chance, moved to a new place to start a life together, which takes a lot courage and a sense of adventure. This I feel really shaped how I approach life with a boldness and hunger for adventure even in my everyday.
Bill loved Martha so much and took really good care of her all his life, especially in the end, even when he couldn’t anymore … he still did! 56 years together, always together through life and now together forever in eternity.
A Graveside service for the both of them will take place Tuesday, July 1, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. at Hillcrest Memorial Park Cemetery 9101 Kern Canyon Rd Bakersfield, California 93306.
