

Charles “Rich” Johnston was born on September 19, 1944 to Charles and Helen Johnston. He grew up with 3 brothers Jim, George and Jerry Johnston as well as grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins in Greene County Pennsylvania. He served in the United States Army for 3 years. After which he began his life-time career working in Education in Germany, on the Navajo Reservation in Arizona and ultimately settling in Barstow California where he served as a teacher and education counselor at MCLB Barstow, NTC Fort Irwin and Barstow Community College.
Rich was a loving husband, father, brother, uncle, grandfather, friend and mentor. He served his community in exemplary ways whether it was through the Domestic Violence Outreach, the Recovery Community, the Church’s Neighborhood Food Pantry or a host of other ministries as an associate pastor. In addition to spending time with his family and in the Word; some things Rich really enjoyed were being outdoors, fishing and riding his motorcycle.
Charles Richard Johnston, 76, Barstow California, went to be with the Lord January 12, 2021. Rich is preceded in death by his parents Charles and Helen Johnston and his brother George Johnston. He is survived by his wife Leah Johnston. Children: Connie Franchia; Randy (Robanne) Johnston; Keith Johnston; LaNell (Dustin) Mayberry; Rebekah (Frankie) Esquivel; Amanda (Robert) Garrett. Grandchildren; Great Grandson; nieces and nephews. Brothers Jim (Linda), Jerry (Pat). Sister-in-laws Jackie (George) and Julie (JJ). Mother-in-law Betty.
There will be a celebration of Rich’s life on Saturday, January 23, 2021, at 1 p.m. outside at River of Life Free Methodist Church 800 Yucca Street, Barstow CA. Reception to follow.
