

Jennie found peace on 04/08/2026. She was born in 1943 in Barstow, California to John and Claudia Veloz. She was the oldest of seven children. Jennie graduated from High School in Barstow, California. Later, she married LeRoy Canfield of Lusk, Wyoming and they had one child, Brian Canfield.
Jennie started a long and distinguished career of over 42 years in Civil Service for the Department of the Navy as a Technical Editor at the Naval Weapons Center in China Lake, California. Jennie also earned her associate’s degree from Cerro Coso Community College.
She enjoyed bible study and was an active member at St. Ann’s church in Ridgecrest, California. Jennie especially enjoyed planning family gatherings, sometimes at local restaurants or in the mountains for an overnight camping experience. Jennie enjoyed going to the movies and her favorite movies were often military action movies. Jennie was also in a local bowling league in the 1970s and was a solid member of her team.
Jennie was proud of her Mexican heritage and made many trips to Mexico to visit extended family. She also made many authentic Mexican dishes to share with her family and friends.
Jennie was a very compassionate and spiritual person and a devoted Catholic. She was fortunate enough to attend mass with Pope John Paul II when he visited California in the 1980’s and in Rome after she retired.
Jennie is preceded in death by LeRoy, and both her parents and her brothers John and Paul.
Jennie will be deeply missed and was loved by many.
Jennie leaves behind a legacy of faith, kindness, and unwavering devotion to her family—values she lived every day and passed on to all who loved her.
Services will be held Saturday April 18, 2026, at 11:00 am at Mead’s Mortuary in Barstow, California.
