Our father, Jesse Herrera, was called Home on January 24, 2017. He was born on July 1, 1945 in Barstow, CA to Lucy and Lorenzo Herrera. He was a lifelong member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. Our dad lived for his Lord Jesus Christ, his children, and grandchildren, who kept him very busy. He retired from BNSF as a machinist in 2005, after 41 years of devoted service. He recieved an award from Mayor Lawrence Dale that proclaimed August 13, 2005 as officially Jesse Herrera Day in the city of Barstow, CA. An award he was very proud of. Dad was great example of a hard worker. He shined shoes and had a paper route as a young boy, then he picked apricots in Hemet, CA every summer and worked "under the table" at JCPenneys as a teenager, until getting hired at Santa Fe right out of high school. We have learned from him that you have to work hard and take care of your family, no matter what. He is proceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife Sylvia L. Herrera, 2 sons Paul Anthony and Reuben Herrera, a brother Raymond Herrera, and a sister Cruz Birchfield. Survivers include his son Jesse E. Herrera (Michele) of Las Vegas, NV, daughters Diane R. Gonzales (Rene), Cindy L. Chavez (Patrick), Laurie A. Herrera, all of Barstow, CA, Yvonne Garcia (Jerry), 15 grandchildren, 2 great grandsons, a brother Lorenzo Herrera and 8 sisters Maggie, Ernestina, Marylou, Angie, Carmen, Dorothy, Rachel, Gloria, along with brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, many nephews, and nieces. And fiance Lupe Zarate. Services to celebrate his life will be on Thursday, February 2, 20017. Viewing will be at 10 AM, Rosary at 11:30 AM, Mass at 12 noon, all at St. Joseph Catholic Church, followed by a short graveside service at Mtn. View Memorial Park Barstow, CA. Reception immediately afterward in Noonan Hall. Your love for us, Dad, and how hard you worked to make sure we always were well taken care of and never hungry, is a tribute to how great a family man you were. We will carry you in our hearts always, until we join you and Mom in Eternal Paradise.
