Johnnie Mae Owens

Our Beloved Ms. Johnnie Mae (Wright) Owens made her transition in to heaven on December 15, 2016 at the age of 80. She was born to the late John and Hazel Wright on May 2, 1936 in Saginaw, Michigan. She was raised in Carrollton, Michigan on her parents pickle farm. As a child she worked in her parent’s grocery store. Johnnie Mae accepted Christ and filled with the Holy Ghost at an early age. She was singing and traveling with a well-known gospel group the age of 15. While sharing the gift of her lovely voice people found Christ. Johnnie Mae loved spending time with friends and family. She enjoyed cooking, doing ceramics, sewing, and interior designing. Also she enjoyed gardening she loved her plants, going to church serving the lord, and watching the word channel on TV. She was one of the first black women to become a real estate agent in Saginaw, Michigan. She obtained her degree in social work at Delta College. Later she relocated to California and worked as a school teacher. She leaves behind to cherish her memory one son John Ellis (Susan), 2 daughters Linda White (Troy) and Rynette Ellis Slaughter (Foster), 10 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, 4 sister’s Dr. Marie Tolliver, Delores Puplava (Ron) and Constance Jack (Otis), Bonnie Price, a best-friend Shahidah Muhammad and a host of nieces and nephews. She is preceded in to death with her 2 sons Lamar Ellis and Mark Dean Ellis, her Parents, one Brother, one Sister and one Brother In-law. Services will be held at Desert View Funeral Home, 11478 Amargosa Rd., Victorville CA 92392 on December 28, 2016 Visitation starting at 10:00 am to 12:00 pm, Funeral Service will start at 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm, and Gravesite Service at Desert View Memorial Park will start at 2:00 pm.
