Mrs. Katsuko Kotani Passmore

Katsuko “Kay” Kotani Passmore passed away with her loving husband by her side on March 15, 2025 in Barstow, California. Katsuko was a longtime resident of Barstow, where she lived and cherished her family for over 30 years.

Born June 10, 1944 in Okinawa, Japan, Katsuko proudly became a citizen of the United States on July 5, 1976, during our nation’s bicentennial birth year.

Katsuko married the love of her life, Henry Passmore Senior, in Vista, California on April 10, 1981 . Henry’s military service led them to various postings, including California, Hawaii, and Okinawa. Eventually, they settled in California and enjoyed their retirement.

A woman of diverse interests and talents, Katsuko graduated from beauty college and found joy in cutting and styling hair. She excelled in sales, particularly with high-end merchandise and fine jewelry. Katsuko was a skilled artist and crafter, enjoying crocheting, basket weaving, and drawing. She had a passion for gardening and a gift for growing productive fruit and vegetable patches. Combining her love for art and flowers, Katsuko became certified in Ikebana, the art of Japanese formal flower arrangements. She was a lifelong learner, taking classes such as Spanish and teaching herself new skills. She enjoyed singing, participating in various Japanese singing contests. She also enjoyed dancing, learning everything from ballroom to square dancing. Her most cherished talent was her ability to prepare a wide variety of delicious food.

Katsuko was preceded in death by her father, Yoshi Kotani; Mother, Hide Kotani; Sister Yoniko Takimori and Son, Kenji Lorton. She is survived by her husband, Henry Passmore Senior; Daughter, Cathleen Davidson; Son, Henry Passmore Junior; grandchildren, Kayla Davidson, Lucas Davidson, Dean Passmore, Victoria Passmore; brothers Yoshihide Kotani, and Katsubo Kotani as well as a host of other family members and friends.

A generous, hospitable and loving daughter, mother, wife, and friend, Katsuko will be missed beyond measure

A celebration of life for Katsuko will be held Thursday, April 10, 2025 at 11:00 AM at Mead Mortuary, 36930 Irwin Rd, Barstow, California 92311. A graveside service will occur Friday, April 11, 2025 at 11:30 AM at Riverside National Cemetery, 22495 Van Buren Blvd, Riverside, California 94102.
