Trista Marie Curran Hignett was born to Terry and Stephanie Curran on August 2, 1968. She had her dad’s twinkling blue eyes and her mom’s thick, auburn hair. She was the youngest sibling to Anastasia and Steven. From the very beginning Trista had a sparkling personality and sharp wit. As a child, her favorite radio songs were those with “bad” words so she could cuss and not get in trouble.
Her younger school years were happily spent at Mount Saint Joseph and then graduated from Barstow High School. Trista continued her education at Loyola Marymount and Cal State University earning her Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and later Chapman University for teaching credentials and Master’s work in Special Education. She spent most of her career at Silver Valley Unified School District and contributed in many ways to the community. Trista excelled in reaching out to her students, providing a safe learning environment, and challenging them to excellence.
The love of Trista’s life was Stan Hignett, he was her everything. In true Barstow fashion they met at the Poker Run desert races. Almost from the very beginning she knew “he was the one.” They were married for thirty-one wonderful years. Celebrating their anniversary, April 1st, was a quirky reminder of Trista’s humorous personality. Stan and Trista were best friends and built a beautiful life with four children, Margaret (Molly), Dalton, Anastasia (Ali), and Wyatt. The children were the light of her life and she was a dedicated, loving, fun, and protective mom. Her dedication never ceased as she developed friendships with her children in their adulthood.
Trista was a lifelong resident of Barstow and raised her family in the same home that she grew up in. She was dedicated to her family, a true professional educator, loved her extended family, and cared deeply for her hometown. Although she loved the beauty of the Mojave Desert, Trista also enjoyed travel and exploration. She was a member of Saint Joseph’s Catholic Church and dedicated to our Blessed Mother.
Stomach cancer was very cruel and Trista bravely fought for over a year with the support of her loving husband, Stan, and the Cedars Sinai staff. She passed away peacefully at home with her family on April 7, 2026. She was 57 years old. We are very sorrowful at her passing but take comfort in our faith that she is at peace with the Lord.
Trista is survived by her husband Stan, children, Margaret (Brandon), Dalton, Anastasia, and Wyatt, grandson Zackary, mother-in-law, Sharon Hignett, sister Anastasia Rohrberg (Steve), brother Steven Curran (Margaret), and many loved nieces, nephews, aunts, and cousins.
