

Alice was born January 25, 1948 to Samuel and Gladys Culley in Westerly, Rhode Island. Alice's father was in the military and they moved around a lot while she was young. She then met Marvin Daugherty in 1972 they were married in June of 1973. They had 3 children Walton Daugherty III( Jess), Justin Daugherty (Coleen), and Brent Daugherty (Rachel). Alice then became a grandmother of five, 3 boys and 2 girls which she loved dearly. She was initiated into the Beta Tau Chapter of Sigma Kappa at the University of Florida where she became the social chairperson. She graduated in 1970 with a degree in elementary education.
Afterwards, she moved back to her birth state of Rhode Island for the first of many teaching positions. Her second summer there, on a lark, she went camping with a girlfriend to Niagara Falls and that's where she met her husband. Marvin was camping next to them and they ended up married for 52 years.
Alice then moved to North Carolina, where she taught in school then worked in the Senior Services Department of Social Services. She worked with the Children's Foster Care/Adoption Department doing home studies and individual children's studies. She had the gratifying job of child/baby placement. A teaching position opened in Beaufort County where she taught until her retirement 17 years later. Overall she was a school teacher for grades 3-5 for almost 30 years. She then retired in 2011.
At Jarvis United Methodist Church in Greenville she was Vice President and President of United Methodist Women local unit. She lead the 5K race/1 mile walk fundraiser. They were able to give three nonprofits $1500 each. She also taught in the Children's Sunday School program for several years, even doing videos for the children during the Covid pandemic.
Alice loved to travel and went on many adventures with her husband, Marvin. They celebrated their 50th Anniversary by taking all their children and grandchildren on a Disney Cruise to Alaska. Above all, Alice loved her church and family more than anything else in the world. She was a giver who wanted to help others and tried to make the community in which she lived a better place for everyone.
The burial is a private interment that will take place on Friday, May 9th at San Gorgonio Memorial Cemetery in Banning, Ca
A Memorial Service will be held for family and friends on Sunday May 18th at 3:00pm at the Jarvis United Methodist Church in Greenville, North Carolina where her life will be remembered.
