Bertha M. Wells

Bertha Madelene Wells, 101, passed away on Sunday, January 28, 2018 at home in Calimesa with family by her side. She was born December 21, 1916 in Pittsburg, Kansas to Alfred & Marcelle Bertrand Toussaint. Bertha has resided in Calimesa for the past 10 years after moving back to California from Sierra Vista Arizona. Bertha and her husband Jack moved from Lynwood CA to Crestline CA in 1959 and worked for Thousand Pines Baptist Camp and later moved to Mission Springs Conference Center in Scotts Valley, CA. Jack and Bertha served on the Baptist Mission’s team in Anchorage Alaska for 18 months caring for children that were displaced due to parental abuse. Bertha later retired as a caregiver from Valle Verde Assisted Living in Santa Barbara, CA.

For all of her life she followed Christ and fellowshipped at the Central Gardens Baptist Church in Lynwood, CA. in the 50’s and many other churches as she moved around the country.

Bertha is preceded in death by her husband, Tunis Jack Wells and daughter, Carol Jean Swisher of Calimesa, CA. She is survived by her son, Charles (Chuck) Wells of Calimesa. Bertha has 2 grandchildren; 1 great grandchild and 2 great-great grand daughters.

A memorial service is scheduled for Saturday, February 24, 2018 at 11:00 am at The River Church, 459 E. Highland Avenue, Redlands, California. In Lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to Venture Church Mission’s Ministry, P.O. Box 11, Beaumont, CA 92223.

Bertha was laid to rest with her husband Jack during a private interment that was held at Inglewood Park Cemetery on Friday, February 9, 2018.
