Deacon Royal L. Murvin

Deacon Royal Lester Murvin, 88, passed away on Friday, February 13, 2015 at his home in Banning, California. Roy was born in Los Angeles, California on June 22, 1926 and grew up there, graduating from Manual Arts High School in June 1944.

After graduation, Roy enlisted in the United States Navy and served as a radio/radarman second class on a Martin Flying Boat seeing duty in Hawaii, the Philippines, China and Japan. After his honorable discharge, Roy went to work for the Nettleship Company of Los Angeles as a sales and claims manager. In his 28 year career he rose to assistant vice-president, retiring in 1973 as he prepared for ordination as a deacon in the Roman Catholic Church. He was ordained in June 1975 and served the Archdiocese of Los Angeles, the Dioceses of Orange and San Bernardino, as well as the parishes of St. John of God, Norwalk, California and St. Kateri Tekakwitha, Beaumont, California where he was active until shortly before his death. Roy and his wife Jane lived at Sun Lakes Country Club in Banning, California for the past 24 years, and have always enjoyed being active members of the St. Kateri Tekakwitha Catholic Community.

Roy was predeceased by his daughter Eileen Murvin Finnegan. He is survived by his wife Jane; sons James of La Mirada, California, Thomas of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Donald of Kaneohe, Hawaii, William of Yorba Linda, California and Robert of Plano, Texas and sister Barbara Cameron of Rolling Hills Estates, California. Roy is also survived by 11 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.

The Rosary will be said Friday, February 20, 2015 at 8:30am, followed by the Funeral Mass at 9:00am, celebrated by Bishop Gerald Barnes, both at St. Kateri Tekakwitha Catholic Church, 1234 Palm Avenue, Beaumont, California. Interment will follow at Holy Sepulcher Cemetery, 7845 Santiago Canyon Road, Orange, California at 1:00pm.
