She was born July 7, 1929, to William and Anna Ullrich in Ottawa. She married Robert J. Carpenter, from Streator, Illinois, on July 8, 1951, while he was stationed at Keesler Air Force Base in Biloxi, Mississippi.
Gloria is survived by her husband, Robert, and their four daughters, Gerri Guiler, Carolyn Carpenter, Lauri Tveit, and Wendy Carpenter; son-in-law Thomas Tveit; her four grand children, Garrett, Farranne, Cassandra, and Ashley Guiler; one great-grandchild Robert Guiler; several nieces and nephews; and cousins, Lucile Nagle, Helen Kaiser, and Pauline Smith, who are also originally from the Ottawa area.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Dorothy Ullrich Lovelace, and brother, William James Ullrich, also formerly of Ottawa.
Gloria found great joy in her family and was always happiest when sharing time and building memories with her loved ones. Her interest in family history led her to explore genealogy. She gathered mementos, historical artifacts, and anecdotes from wherever she could. These treasures she shared with her children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
She was a thoughtful woman who found pleasure in learning new things, challenging her brain with crossword puzzles, games of Trivial Pursuit, watching game shows like Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune, and reading books. Her hands were kept busy creating beautiful crocheted and knitted afghans for her family members that will allow them to stay wrapped in her love for many years.
A chapel service will be held at Weaver Mortuary in Beaumont, California on Saturday, September 24 at 1:00 p.m. Memories of Gloria may be shared with her family through the funeral home website at www.weaver-mortuary.com.
In lieu of flowers, please remember Gloria with a donation to the charity of your choice.
