Maggie Working, 79, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on March 21, 2026, in Beaumont.
She was born on September 17, 1946, in Berkeley and attended St. Anthony’s Catholic School, where her love of learning, reading, and history first began.
Maggie lived a life marked by strength, resilience, and love. In the later years of her life, she faced each day with courage and grace. Even through life’s hardest moments, she continued to show up for the people she loved—with warmth, humor, and an open heart. She carried more than most ever knew, yet never stopped giving of herself. Her strength was steady and unwavering, and it touched everyone around her.
She devoted her life to helping others find their way. As a drug and rehabilitation counselor, and later through her work in social services at a nonprofit homeless center, Maggie stood beside people in their most difficult moments and reminded them they were not alone. She believed in people, even when they struggled to believe in themselves.
Maggie found joy in the simple and meaningful things—losing herself in a good book, enjoying theater and musicals, learning about history, and spending time outdoors camping. These were the moments that filled her spirit and reflected her curiosity and appreciation for life.
Those who knew Maggie will remember her as incredibly smart, genuinely funny, and endlessly giving. She had a big heart that made room for everyone, and a love that ran deep for her family and her beloved dogs. She was the kind of person who made others feel safe, understood, and cared for.
She is survived by her daughter, Lisa Bell; her grandson, Joshua Matson; her nieces, Crystal Carroll and Renee Alexander; and many great-nieces and nephews who will carry her memory forward.
Maggie leaves behind more than memories—she leaves behind a legacy of love, compassion, and resilience. She will be deeply missed, forever loved, and never forgotten.
A Graveside Service will be held at San Gorgonio Memorial Park, 2201 N San Gorgonio Ave, Banning, CA 92220, US, on April 17, 2026, from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm.
