Maria Elena Estrada, 75, of Banning, California, passed away peacefully at home on October 11th, 2023. Maria was born to Genaro and Rosalba Vargas on August 20th, 1948 in Jalisco, Mexico. She was a loving wife to Atanacio “Tano” Estrada, who passed away in 2017. Together, they raised their sons Paul, Sean (wife Anna) Estrada and daughter Lynn (and Richard Fuentes) with immense love and care. Maria Elena was also a proud grandmother to Destiny, Leila, Daniel, Nadia, Maxine, and Marisa, who brought much joy and happiness to her life.
In addition to her immediate family members, Maria Elena known as “Malena” to her siblings, is survived by her brothers Jose and Conrado Vargas (and wife Isabel), and sisters Anita Frausto and Angelina Camarena. Though she was preceded in death by her brother Rodolfo Vargas, sister Celia Perez, and brother-in-law Juan Frausto, their memories lived on through the many stories she shared.
Maria Elena’s life was characterized by her selflessness, kindness, and unwavering faith. She was a devout Catholic and regularly attended mass at her local churches. She was also known for her delicious cooking and warm hospitality, which she generously shared with her loved ones.
Her family and friends will always remember her for her immense love of cooking, her “antojas” for food, dedication to her novelas, and her bright eyes and smile. Her legacy will continue to live on through the countless lives she touched, and she will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
