Marion Lewis Hughes, beloved Husband, Father and Friend went home to be with the Lord on March 25, 2011 after an almost 9 month battle with cancer. He is survived by his loving spouse, Helen (Rossi) Hughes; daughter and son-in-law, Michael and Melinda (Hughes) Black; grandchildren, Nyssa and Eric Senzig and many other family members and neighbors by which he was truly loved. He was preceded in death by his parents, Royal and Emma (Lindauer) Hughes and his sister, Gladys (Richards) Hughes.
Marion “Lew” was born on August 4, 1924, in the small midwest town of Arcadia, Nebraska. We all loved him recounting his antics in small town America. In the summer of 1941, he joined the United States Navy and proudly served his country for four years as a radioman. In 1948 he met the love of his life, Helen Rossi. They married September 9, 1950 and she was his love and constant companion for over 61 years. In October 1954 his daughter Melinda Lou Hughes was born and they eventually settled in Downey, California. Lew was employed by Thermador Electric and retired in 1988. His granddaughter, Nyssa, was born in December 1984 and his grandson, Eric, was born in April 1988 and provided him with untold blessings and joy watching them grow into adulthood. Lew and Helen retired to the quaint town of Banning, CA and enjoyed their home and friends for 20 years. Lew was an avid gardener and everything he touched bloomed with life. He helped everyone he knew in his neighborhood and was loved by all. Goodbye Beloved Husband, Father, Uncle, Brother-In-Law and Friend. We will always remember and love you.
