

Pearl Coqueece Alexander-King was the born in Drumright, Oklahoma on December 21, 1936. She was the second daughter born to her parents, Reverend Alonzo Cottrol and Marjorie Opal Price Alexander. By 1943, her mother, then a single parent with three little girls, relocated to California. Her mother moved to San Diego to be near her immediate family. Later, her mother remarried and moved to Long Beach.
Coqueece met the love of her life, Carl Dee King, Sr., in Long Beach and they were married on December 8, 1951. To this union three sons and one daughter were born:
Carl Dee King, Jr., Michael Renee King, Marcus Alexander King and Crystal Denise King-Bailey. After being married for 10 years, Coqueece returned to school to complete her education.
Her first diploma came when she graduated from Long Beach Polytechnic High's evening school. After that accomplishment, she decided to go on to college to pursue a career in nursing. Coqueece enrolled at Long Beach City College in their Nursing Program. She graduated in 1971 having earned an Associate of Science Degree, thus becoming a Registered Nurse (R.N.). While working full time as a Registered Nurse in various Long Beach area hospitals and clinics, she continued her education. She completed the requirements for a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing at California State University, Long Beach and graduated in 1984 with a B.S.N.
Coqueece retired from the nursing profession in 1999. Her last position was as a Department Administrator for Kaiser Permanente where she completed 15 years of service.
Coqueece was preceeded in death by her parents; one sister, Espanola Alberta Alexander-Lewis; her beloved husband of 62 years, Carl Dee King, Sr.; one son, Michael Renee King and one granddaughter, Ayeshah Shantee King.
She was called home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Monday, September 28, 2020.
Pearl Coqueece King leaves to cherish her memory one sister, Gloria Capitola Hines-Atkinson (John "Lefty" Atkinson); two sons, one daughter, five granddaughters, 25 great grandchildren, one great-great granddaughter and a host of relatives and friends.
Coqueece "Co" will be remembered for her intelligence, beauty (those eyes!) and her amazing strength. Her family said she was unique, direct, loved, thoughtful, caring and thorough. She was steadfast in her beliefs, a great cook and provided great comfort and support to her family and friends. Coqueece will remain ever-present in our hearts. May you rest in peace!
