In Rememberance of
Raye Melvadeen Gush Smith: aka “Dee Dee”
She was born in Little Rock, AR  and was a Southern Baptist.  
She is preceded in death by her Father David Raymond Smith, her Mother Ruby Jewel Jean Gentry Smith and a sister Linda Kaye Ventress Smith.  
Melvadeen is survived by her sister Brenda Gail Cowan Smith along with three nephews, Michael, Ian, Jason and two nieces Shelby & Carissa.
Out of 53 first cousins she is survived by 10, Margarett, Letha, Gracie,  Allen, Cathy, Janie, Naymon, Pat, John, & Jonnie
And will be especially missed by Margarett and Naymon whom she was very close to. 
She was 11 years old when we moved from Arkansas to the San Joaquin Valley, CA.  Then later moving to San Bernardino where she attended San Bernardino High School.  Then later her home was in Beaumont for several years.  She loved the pass area. 
Melvadeen was an adventurer, very out going and loved to travel anywhere and anyway she could, she just wanted to go, she especially liked riding the train! 
 
She had hundreds of dinner bells that she collected from all her travels and she got excited one time when they all rang at once during an earthquake!  

She loved people and had the gift of gab while always smiling and laughing.  She knew no strangers.

She loved to visit family and often you would find her holding the babies and just talking to them, they loved it.

Growing up with such a large family she loved being in the kitchen with all of us cooking up a holiday dinner and then enjoying it together. 

Back in the late 70’s she was the first female Deputy Sheriff of Bull Head City, AZ  

For many years she was the Election Officer for Riverside County and ran a voting pole in Beaumont, CA 

She loved shopping and going to buy a new hat to go to the Kentucky Derby each year and drink that Jubilee!  

She liked dressing up, wearing jewelry and flowers or some kind of clip in her hair!  
She was very pretty

We often talked on FaceTime and she always made a heart with her hands and kissed me in the middle of it.

And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself: that where I am, there  ye may be also.

Another hen party! We always had so much fun!

One of many Hen Parties we had with friends...No roosters or chicks allowed!

For many years she was the Election Officer for Riverside County and she loved doing it because she loved all the people!

Our sister Linda surprised us with old family photos.  The one is Mom & Dad holding Melvadeen as a baby.  The other one is from 1928 Family Farm in Pulaski Co. Ark   From the left Mom, Mary Annie Hill Gentry, Richard Allen Gentry, Otis & Clyde.

Her left handedness was amazing to watch her do things!

She wrote on the back:
"Enjoyed wearing my hat you helped me pick out.

Heartfelt sympathy n love to all of you Fond memories of the many times Uncle George n Dee came to Canada for visits and stayed with my mom Special times for sure Rest in Peace Deedee Hugs and love from Susan Dan Janice Bruce and Lindsay We will forever remember her as a beautiful kind loving woman Prayers to all of you

Thinking about all the laughs we had with you and George, at Margarett and JD’s. You will be remembered and missed Cuz! 
I’m glad to know you are at peace and not in any more suffering and pain. 😘

One of the many fun times I had with my sister was when I took her to see Tim McGraw for her birthday.  We had VIP everything from parking to up front center seats and back stage passes to see him.  Faith and Kenny Chesney were there also.  Melvadeen was so happy, we had so much fun that night in Glen Helen.   Many times we would ride the party buses to the horse races for all day fun!  I had a lot of special times throughout my life with my sister, to many to tell here but I will keep our many memories in my heart.  I look forward to seeing her again in heaven where we will spend eternity together!
