Stanley passed away peacefully at home on October 13, 2016, in Cherry Valley, California.
He was 95 years old. Stanley was born December 26, 1920 in South Gate, California. He graduated from
Compton Jr. College in 1940 and joined the U.S. Army Air Corps on December 8, 1941. Stanley spent
27 years with the U.S. Air Force, flying 167 missions as a fighter pilot in England, Africa, Sicily, Corsica, Sardinia and Italy. Stanley also served as a test pilot, a pilot with the 1st Army Air Corp Acrobatic Team, Professor of Air Science and Tactics, Reserve Officer Training Corps, Squadron and Group Commander.
Stanley’s civilian career spanned 23 years with the California Division of Highways and Caltrans as a
Right of Way Officer in San Bernardino, California. He was a life member of the Reserve Officers Association, Daedalian’s Pilots organization and the Elks Lodge in San Bernardino. He also served with the Salvation Army for 25 years. Stanley was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed tennis, golf and travel.
Stanley was preceded in death by his wonderful, loving wife of 68 years Betty L. Martin in May 2013.
He will be sorely missed by his daughter Cynthia Smith (John) of Yucaipa, Ca. and sons Jerry Martin (Marlis) of Albuquerque, NM, Stanley Martin Jr. (Patti) of Cherry Valley Ca., his brother Joe Martin of Paso Robles, Ca., his 5 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren and all those that had the pleasure of knowing him.
