With broken hearts, we announce the sudden and tragic passing of Cecil Williams on June 12, 2025. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend, Cecil’s life was defined by love, loyalty, and quiet strength.
Born on March 19, 1948, Cecil lived a life rooted in hard work, humility, and deep devotion to his family. He was a coal miner by trade, working many years close to home for Consol Energy at Rowland in Workmans Creek and for Massey Energy at several locations including Performance Coal where he and his brothers, Buford and Timmy, worked together. Cecil met life’s challenges—including disability—with grit and grace. Cecil was also a former dirt track champion and a USA 100 winner at Beckley Motor Speedway. His passion for racing never faded. Cecil didn’t just love the sport—he lived it. He proudly passed that passion on to his children, raising them to appreciate the dirt track as much as he did.
Above all else, Cecil loved his wife, children, and grandchildren beyond measure. He was a constant source of support, pride, and unconditional love in their lives. His greatest joy came from time spent with family.
Cecil was preceded in death by his father, Lorn Williams; his mother, Lois Jack; his stepmother, Arlene Williams; his first wife, Betty Williams; his infant son, Stephen Page; and other beloved family members to include Ray and Stella Williams, Ramie and Ellen Bailey, Sammey and Sharon Bailey, Jimmy Bailey and Dillard Jack.
Cecil is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Connie Williams; and his four devoted children: Mereda Doss (Randy), Joey Williams, Amanda Clemens (Gus), and Patrick Williams (Alexis). He is also survived by his brothers Buford Williams (Dianne), Timmy Williams (Kathy) and Randy Williams (Angie). He is also survived by his beloved grandchildren: Samantha, Alyssa, Emily, Justin, Joey, David, Trevor, Teagan, Joshua, Jacob, Nolan, Carson, Rylan, Hannah, and Emmalyn and eighteen great-grandchildren—each of whom brought immense pride and joy into his life.
Cecil also leaves behind extended family and countless friends who were touched by his warmth, humor, and generosity.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to the friends, neighbors, and emergency responders who offered compassion and care in his final moments. Your kindness will never be forgotten.
A celebration of Cecil’s life will be held at 12:00PM Saturday, June 21, 2025 at Blue Ridge Funeral Home, Beckley with his nephew, Pastor Ronnie Williams officiating. Friends may gather with the family from 10:00AM until the time of the service at the funeral home. Following the services Cecil will be laid to rest at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley. All who knew and loved him are welcome to attend and help honor the life of a man who meant so much to so many.
In honor of Cecil’s memory, we ask that you hug your friends and family a little tighter, perform small acts of kindness, and cheer on your local dirt track. These were the things he loved most—and there’s no better way to carry his spirit forward than by living with love, generosity, and joy.
