As a young man Charlie started leaving his mark on the world as early as junior high when he became the Leewood Junior High School class president, an honor roll recipient, Valedictorian of his Clear Creek High School graduating class, and later serving his country as a proud veteran of the US Army 82nd Airborne Division. After his time in the military, he spent 40 years working for the Chrysler Motor Company and fulfilling his free time speed reading, playing softball, going bowling, and visiting the racetrack to watch the ponies. Despite never marrying he was a family man with a heart of gold enjoying taking his parents traveling while he could, befriending homeless cats, and remaining humble as he silently looked out for those less fortunate. Charlie was a humanitarian, donating clothes, money, and his time helping those in need not only during the holidays but all year round.
While he is preceded in death by his parents, those left to celebrate his memory include his brother Terry Hodge and sister-in-law Melanie Bennett-Hodge, along with many other loving relatives including Katie and Joseph Bohn who kept him close and watched over him in his later years.
In honor of Charlie’s memory his family would like to encourage those wishing to honor him to make donations to the Church of God Family Worship Beckley Dream Center at 224 Pinewood Drive, Beckley, WV, 25801. They accept many different types of donations and carry out the same charitable work that Charlie was so dedicated to.
Blue Ridge Funeral Home of Beckley, WV is honored to be carrying out Charlie’s final wishes and he will be buried, with his parents, at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. A celebration of life will take place at a later date which has yet to be announced.
